Value’s Shaped Action
John R. Wooden, esteemed as one of the most influential basketball coaches in the annals of the sport, came up with the "Pyramid of Success." This framework was not merely a strategy for athletic prowess but was designed as a holistic guide to nurture his players' overall development. Wooden's vision transcended basketball; he aspired to equip his players with a compass for navigating the challenges of life.
Central to Coach Wooden's philosophy was the notion that true success is an internal equilibrium, achieved when one finds contentment through the genuine effort of realising one's potential. He diverged from the conventional emphasis on victory and instead underscored the virtues of diligence, commitment, and self-growth.
The Pyramid's foundation is anchored by core tenets such as industriousness, camaraderie, allegiance, collaboration, and zeal. Each constituent element symbolises an essential value pivotal for both personal growth and professional evolution. Wooden's projection was that adherence to these tenets would ensure his players led lives enriched with purpose and equilibrium, independent of the game's outcome.

Curiosity Shaped Action
Leonardo da Vinci, celebrated as one of the luminaries of the Renaissance era, is an artist who followed his curiosity as a pathway to listen, take notes and improve his craft. His exceptional talent encompassed engineering, architecture, and a profound appreciation for the human form, culminating in a holistic take on the art of his time.
A testament to his multifaceted brilliance is his meticulous study of the neck muscles, a fragment of his broader exploration into behavioural anatomy. This journey was fuelled by an intense desire to grasp the intricacies of the human body. Leonardo was not solely an artist; he was equally a scientist, inventor, and pioneering anatomist. His objective was twofold: to elevate the realism of his artistic depictions and to augment the scientific comprehension of the human physique.
LEONARDO DA VINCI (1452-1519) The superficial anatomy of the shoulder and neck; The muscles of the shoulder
In painting the neck muscles, Leonardo considered their role in facilitating human motion and expression. He held the conviction that an intimate and precise knowledge of anatomy would empower him to render the human figure in his art with unmatched realism, capturing the nuances of expression and dynamism.
Mission Shapes Action
In 2014, Malala Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the tender age of 17. This accolade was not merely a recognition of her individual bravery and tenacity but served as a profound acknowledgment of her steadfast dedication to championing education and gender equality, even when confronted with life-threatening adversity.
Originating from Mingora, Pakistan, Malala exhibited an innate zeal for education from her early years. However, her aspirations were threatened when the Taliban asserted dominance over her locality, imposing a ban on female education. Undeterred by this oppressive regime, an 11-year-old Malala took the audacious step of voicing her dissent. She penned her thoughts and experiences on the BBC Urdu platform, albeit under an alias, advocating for the educational rights of girls.
This act of defiance, however, marked her as a target. In a harrowing incident on October 9, 2012, a Taliban assailant ambushed her school transport, shooting her in the cranium. While Malala teetered on the brink of death, she miraculously recuperated. This assassination attempt not only spotlighted her cause on a global scale but also highlighted the dire circumstances of countless children denied their fundamental right to education.
Post-recovery, Malala, along with her kin, found refuge in Birmingham, UK. Here, she not only pursued her academic endeavours but also amplified her advocacy efforts. She emerged as an emblem of non-violent resistance and was distinguished as the youngest contender for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2013.
Coach Wooden championed a decision-making paradigm that emphasised adaptability, both in life's challenges and on the basketball court. By clearly delineating one's core values, akin to a discerning artist, one can navigate through societal pressures, peer influences, and even profound internal apprehensions to consistently make informed and quality decisions.
Central to Leonardo's approach was an unwavering curiosity, which served as his guiding compass in all endeavours. This is clearly evident leafing through the notes he produced. He continually revisited and refined his notes, enhancing his understanding and the precision of his depictions. Accompanying his written observations were detailed sketches and diagrams, illustrating the neck muscles from diverse perspectives. These notes served as visual aids, pivotal in transposing his anatomical insights into his masterful artworks.
The honor of receiving the Nobel Peace Prize did not mark the culmination of Malala's journey. She remains an indefatigable advocate for female education and women's empowerment. Through her addresses at global conventions, interactions with world leaders, and her compelling narrative, she galvanizes countless individuals. Her odyssey serves as a beacon, urging global citizens to champion their rights and the rights of their fellow beings.
