Experienced Well-being
The power to do more comes the moment we can sort through the ‘Why’, after which ‘How’ - the pathway opens up to bring our plans into a reality.
In today’s modern context, as artist and knowledge workers, everything seems so urgent and constantly demanding our attention at every turn. Each individuals creative ability to Preview and Review effectively is what separates those that do from the others.
To Preview is your answer to ‘What do I do today?’ and Review is when to look back and admit that you’ve done all right.
Quick Todo
I rely on quick todo notes as a simple way to get tasks out of my head and unto paper. It’s an effective way to get over the hard stuff quickly - an admin task that’s been hanging for a while, grocery list that’s been bouncing around, a reminder to water the plants etc.
These seemingly easy tasks have a way of creeping up and becoming a bigger the longer they’re allowed to linger. If you do those quickly then the feeling of joy that comes with crossing stuff off a checklist spurs you on to the hard things.
Weekly Preview
The best way I know how to manage any given weekday is to set an agenda at the end of the previous week. A weekly preview is the time and place to create a plan for what you want to achieve, where you want to visit, and how you can go about achieving your most pressing wants and needs for the following week.
A weekly preview is often times a draft, since it takes so many moving parts for a ten out of ten experience in any given week.
The preview is not an opportunity to take yourself captive but rather serves as a guide to navigate through a busy week ahead.
Gratitude Journaling
Have you ever finished your tasks for the day and while on the couch wonder to yourself ‘Gosh what a long day’?
Same here.
That’s the exact moment to reach for your writing pad and give grattitude for what you’ve done. That you crossed off a few quick tasks, walked the dog, made lunch, visited with a few friends and on and on.
It’s in appreciating what we have that the peace and strength to do more comes.
Morning Notes
Everyday after getting out of bed I take 5-10 minutes in the morning to declare blessings and favour over what’s mine, family, friends and work.
I basically write down what I hope to experience, after which I settle in for what’s ahead. I find it to be a great way to set my priorities straight and leave behind what’s not in my future.
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is one book I’d recommend to anyone who’s in the process of reaching in to discover what’s ahead. Oprah Winfrey reviewed it as a resource that can potentially bring the reader ‘More joy, right now’
I strongly believe in the power of taking time to set one’s affairs in order with Preview & Review, and the surprising benefits that come with it when done over a considerable stretch.
I’ve personally experienced fresh vision, fresh energy since I started and I hope it turns out to be true for you too, dear reader.
Until next time, remember we can all be more mindful✌🏾 ~ Silas
